  • Quality of Life: How can Burlington improve the quality of life for its citizens?
    • Building a stronger partnership with Burlington, Alamance County, state and federal agencies in an effort to deter gun violence.
    • Ensure every citizen whether young or old has access to quality leisure opportunities. Move toward a more mobile delivery of recreational activities for the communities. 
    • Improving housing opportunities leveraging federal funds with private developers for the construction of affordable housing.
    • Research methods to control storm water runoff, transition of Link Transit vehicles to electric fleet, and change development policies to require additional green space within developments in an effort to provide a higher quality environment for the future.
  • Economic Development: Because the jobs and careers we choose is major part of our life, we need to ensure all citizens have the opportunity of employment by attracting innovative companies.
    • Continue partnership with both state and county governments to provide economic incentives, a strong public and private school system, quality housing opportunities and leisure opportunities.
    • Strategically expand our infrastructure including roadways, water and sewer and broadband services.
    • Revitalize downtown Burlington to attract small to medium sized businesses and housing by improving existing infrastructure including broad band, streetscaping, lighting, and traffic control measures.
    • Partner with private companies to revitalize vacant older structures for residential and/or small business use.
  • Public Safety: As a critical function of government, we must ensure the well-being of all citizens, organizations, institutions, and communities.
    • Expand to a national recruitment for quality police officers who will qualify under state statues for certification.
    • Supported the formation of a Community Police Advisory Team (CPAT) consisting of citizens throughout Burlington.
    • Provide competitive compensation plan to attract and retain both police and fire employees.
    • Encourage police officers and firefighters to meet national established certification guidelines.
    • Continue to identify any educational opportunities needed to enhance personnel’s awareness of community cultural values.
  • Fiscal Responsibility of City Government: To prioritize and adopt “smart spending” practices while planning for the future to ensure Burlington has reserve funding for unexpected needs.
    • Partner with a technology company who understanding the challenges of governmental organizations to identify any security, upgrade or capacity needs.
    • With the increase cost of infrastructure, identify required roadways improvements needed to estimate 10 year projected cost.
    • Encourage and monitor employee utilization of the city’s health care client which provides wellness opportunities leading to potential reduction in health care cost.
    • Implement best practice procedures to extend operational lifespan for facilities and rolling fleet resulting in reduction in expense.
    • Recommend professional city staff to annually identify, describe and prioritize a listing of potential capital projects and initiatives. Public hearing recommended to review and provide feedback and/or additional ideas to be considered during budget process.
